Located in the southernmost part of Delaware, Georgetown is the County Seat, filled with much local history! Every season here is beautiful!
Pretty much anything you need can be found within a 2-mile radius of us: grocery stores, pharmacies, churches, antique shoppes, and of course a Wal-Mart! We are located just 2 miles from Sports At The Beach, and 15-20 miles from the busy beach area. I’ve listed below some points of interest, as well as other nearby attractions. Enjoy!
Walking Tour of Georgetown (on your own)
You are staying in one of the most historic properties in our town! As you walk out our front door, you can start your tour by enjoying The Circle and the history surrounding it. Maps of the complete tour are available in the Lobby. Some of the locations on the tour include the Sussex County Court House, Town Hall (is it significant that it formerly was the site of a Tavern in 1820?!), The Old Fire Hall, The Mansion House, The Paynter House, Dr. Joseph B. Waples House, and the Old Sussex County Court House.
Treasures of the Sea Exhibit
Delaware Technical & Community College, Route 18, Georgetown
Through the efforts of treasure hunter Mel Fisher, the research of Dr. Eugene Lyons, and the backing of investor Melvin Joseph, Sr. of Georgetown, Delaware, along with others who believed in the search, over 1,000 silver bars, 180,000 silver coins and a number of bronze cannons have been recovered as part of the treasure of the Atocha. And what treasure it is! The magnificence of the gold, the splendor of the jewels and the excitement of the hunt can be enjoyed at this exhibit. Call to verify exhibit hours. Open: Mondays and Tuesdays 10am to 4pm, Fridays Noon to 4pm , Saturdays 9am to 1pm; closed in January. Admission Charged.
South Bedford Street
Open only on Saturdays from 11am – 1pm, The Old Courthouse is located right around the corner from The Brick. Take a walk over and hear the stories about this very historical structure.
Georgetown Train Station
140 Layton Avenue
This building was built around 1868, purchased by the Historic Georgetown Association in 1996, and then totally restored. Everything possible was done during the restoration to restore the structure to its former (nineteenth and early twentieth century) condition and appearance. In order to qualify for a Transportation Grant, most of the interior demolition was done by volunteers.
The Delaware Seaside Railroad Club has a train display that is normally open on the first and third Saturdays of the month. We suggest you call ahead to confirm that the display is being held.
The building is now manned by the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce.
Hours: Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 4:00pm
Sports At The Beach is located just outside of town going east on Route 9, less than 2 miles from The Brick. It is a 95-acre baseball facility that offers youth baseball tournaments from March through October, specializing in weeklong summer tournaments known as Summer Classics. While The Brick Hotel On The Circle may not be the best choice for accommodating teams, we’re certainly happy to provide accommodations to parents and grandparents who, as we did, travel far and wide so as not to miss a game!
Flex World Fitness describes itself as a state-of-the-art, full-service fitness facility with an extensive selection of exercise equipment and extended hours operation. They have been kind enough, however, to provide our guests with discounted daily ($5) and weekly ($10) passes.
8A, Georgetown Plaza, Georgetown
Hours of Operation: Open 4am – 11pm daily
Coming Soon to Georgetown – a stone’s throw away — Revelation Brewery. Slated to open Fall of 2019. Revelation purchased the 16 Mile Brewery property located on South Bedford Street — just over a mile away from The Brick. Stay Tuned!
Ever heard of Dogfish Head beer? Well the famous Dogfish brewery is just 8 1/2 miles away in Milton! Great beer, tours and Dogfish memorabilia. If this is on your radar during your visit, be sure to check out our Bed & Brew Package!
Want to hit more breweries — there are several within 30 miles of us and we’re just about in the middle of them all! Here’s a few to get your beer buds watering: Brimming Horn Meadery (Milton 8 miles), Mispillion River Brewing (Milford 18 miles), Evolution Craft & Brewing (Salisbury, MD 30 miles), Burley Oak Brewing Company (Berlin, MD 28 miles), 3rd Wave Brewing (Delmar, DE 18 miles).
Antiques: There are a couple of shops within walking distance right on East Market Street. Just outside of town, on your way to the beach, you’ll pass by a few other antique stores; they are all worth a visit!
General Shopping: Why of course we have a Wal-Mart! There are limited shopping opportunities in Georgetown, but enough so that you can find just about anything you may have forgotten to bring along with you. More abundant shopping is close by in Lewes and Rehoboth. In Lewes, you will find quaint, somewhat unique shops on 2nd Street; in Rehoboth, there are hundreds of stores at Tanger Outlets, but it is also worth taking your time to go into Rehoboth to check out the shops on the main drag, Rehoboth Avenue.
RESTAURANTS: Of course we’re going to tell you that you’ve got the best possible choice right here at our onsite restaurant, The Counting House. But there certainly are other dining opportunities in town giving you choices for pizza, Italian, Caribbean, Mexican, Chinese, family-style, and take outs. Our staff can provide you with recommendations and directions.
BEACHES: You have many choices, and we’re not far from any of them!
- Lewes, Delaware (14 miles), and a straight shot from The Brick Hotel On The Circle, is a very quaint, historic town where you can do some shopping on 2nd street, charter a boat out of Fisherman’s Wharf, or take in some history with a visit to the Zwaanendael Museum or a very historic cemetery!
- Rehoboth Beach, Delaware (17 miles) is a typically busy resort town, but with lots of things to entertain all age groups.
